The January theme for Poetic Expressions was to write a poem inspired by the picture above. What could one see in the image? What did it say? What images did it inspire within us? It was interesting to see the varied perspectives of the same image.
After our poll last year, we thought we would "trial" a couple of suggestions made for this month. First was shortening the poems (which was a challenge for our writers *g*) and secondly the voting. It had been decided before Linda V (our CL) went on leave that we would trial voting from 1 to 3 poems. If you wish to vote for 1 you can. If you wish to vote for 3, that's fine. All votes WILL be counted whether you vote for 1, 2 or 3. It is our hope that it will help encourage members to vote, even if you prefer to vote for just one. *s*
Happy reading!!
A Forbidden Love
The hallowed halls awaken
as the early morning light
Casts shadows through the windows
and reveals a gown of white
And yet a heart is broken
as silently she weeps
By the tree forbidden
with her secrets to keep
Her painful inner torment
the promise of her hand
Betrothes her to another
though she loves another man
And yet the sweet and tempting fruit
that once brought her to life
Today serves a reminder
that she'll be another's wife...
So while the hallowed halls awaken
a love she'll not deny
'Twas upon her wedding day
the young maiden took her life.

First Light of Morning
Shafts of sunlight through the windows
A pounding heart withing my breast,
Temptation all around me,
Facing my greatest test.
I have seen your smiling face
And heard the sweetness in your voice,
In my mind there is confusion
And yet I can't help but rejoice.
A beautiful gown adorns me
As I rush to morning's first glow
Shall I run to you or run away,
How shall I ever know?
Decision made and I care not
What the future may hold for me,
I am rushing towards you
Hold out your arms for me.
In the flush of the dawning
And in morning's first light
Tousled hair about my head
I know my decision is right.

Untitled
She runs through the cold concrete corridors
The moonlight shining through the windows
The shadows jump out at her
As her ball gown blows behind her.
The forbidden fruit that she shouldn’t of had
Looms in front of her as she runs ahead
Running from the sins behind her.
She can see the shadows of the people behind her
As her footsteps echo on the cold stone walls,
And she knows as soon as she gets to the corner,
She’ll be alone in the dark deep state.
The state in which she herself has achieved,
For she has sinned the worst sins
And disgraced the family name.
For here she had done the worst fate of all,
She had tested the fruit of the forbidden land,
And now she must pay the price.

Tears of Forbidden Secrets
The night shadows slip away to the light of dawn
A soft mist reflecting the colours of the new morn
Shimmers through the archways of another time
As she returns from the arms of the one she loves
Before words are spoken that will unfold her hidden secret
Hiding her inner pain within her hearts boundaries
The forbidden fruit of the tree,
Reminding her of what is keeping them apart
Wondering who would understand and who would not
Knowing that the eyes of judgement are always upon her aching heart
No one understands the love she holds deep within
The only time she is free from judgements eye
Is when they walk together in the shadows of the moon light
Where her heart is free to hold close the one she adores
Not afraid to walk the pathways of love till the night is dawn
Silent tears she cries at the beginning of each awakening day
Leaving behind her love as she has to go her own way
For this love she holds within the boundaries of her heart
She will hold this secret deep inside her soul
And take it to her grave for this forbidden secret will never be told

Searching
Stuck in a daze
In this mystical tower
Searching for something
Not knowing the outcome.
What will she find,
Who is there hiding
Waiting in the shadow
Of this fruit bearing tree
Spinning around
Tirelessly looking
Is it her savior
Or her sanity she's searching
Through hallways and locked doors
Desperately peering
Endlessly, hopefully
Dutifully waiting.
