January 2007 Theme ~ "Hope"

"Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune--without the words,
And never stops at all."

These words were written many years ago by Emily Dickinson. As we begin another new year, there are many thoughts of hope for this year and for the future, both in our personal lives and for the entire world. Our contest theme for January 2007 was to write a poem relating to "HOPE".

The Hope In My Heart

I have a hope deep in my heart
A prayer I say every night
For peace to fill the world I love
Like a bright and shining light

I have a hope deep in my heart
That war will come to an end
Weapons will be laid upon the ground
Hands reached out to make amends

I have a hope deep in my heart
That poverty will be no more
Everyone will have all they need
From every country and shore

I have a hope deep in my heart
For the children everywhere
That they will be loved and cherished
And treated with tender care

I have a hope deep in my heart
That I will never let fade away
And I believe they can be accomplished
If we stand together this day

Hope

Hope is the heart
Holding onto
Optimism and
Promise with
Endurance.

In the battle against its foes,
Depression
Esteem slashing
Self-destructive urges
Pain
Anguish
Irreverence and
Rage

Hope brings victory through
Living life to the fullest
Opening our eyes to beauty
Vigilance against sorrow
Eagerness for life.

Let hope find a
Harmonious
Overtone of
Melody
Each day
within your heart.

Hope Defined

Upon the wings one gently flies
High above the cloudy skies
In ardent search for inner peace
To find somewhere our heartaches cease

A dream to catch a falling star
A wish that's etched with our hearts
To one day find the rainbow's end
Upon which happiness depends

Yet somehow we now rest upon
The hope a brilliant light is shone
In recognition we give birth
To luck and monetary worth

But hope is not which we define
By man's material design
It's far deeper than dare to go
And so much greater than we know

Hope - it's just the smallest part
Springing from within our hearts,
For hope is borne upon the wings
Of that which life is sure to bring.

Hope

Once I was lost in life, it seems,
Just left along the way,
But faith and hope have seen me through,
It's now a brand now day....

Once I was filled with so much hurt
I didn't know what to do
But friends and family stood by me
And God has seen me through.

So if you feel that you are lost
Somewhere along the way,
Just put your faith in God, my friends,
Get on your knees and pray....

For whether you believe or not,
You'll get an answer clear,
He'll always be there by your side,
His hope is always near.

That thing with feathers in your soul
Will sing a joyous song,
'Cause with your faith and hope in God,
You simply can't go wrong!
